About One Piece

The world in One Piece consists mainly of the four great oceans: Eastblue, Westblue, Northblue, Southblue, and the islands located there. The so-called Grandline, a stretch of ocean with unpredictable currents and constant weather changes, surrounds the entire planet. Along the Grandline are the most powerful pirates and dangerous islands in the world, which is why it is also known as the ‘pirate’s grave.’ It is also where the legendary treasure, One Piece, is said to be found.

The outskirts of the Grandline are called the Calm Belt because it is always windless there, and giant sea monsters inhabit these areas – the Sea Kings. Because of this, the Grandline is separated from the Blue Oceans. According to a legend, on the Grandline, there is also the Allblue, where all four Blue oceans unite. The only continent in the world is the Redline, which stretches in a ring around the planet, crossing the Grandline twice.

The first approach to the Grandline is at the junction of the Grandline and Redline, where currents from the four oceans flow over Rivers Mountain into the Grandline. The second half of the Grandline, the New World, can only be accessed by two routes at the second intersection: One is the Holy Land of Mary Joa, located on the Redline, which is also the seat of the world government. The other is Fish-Man Island, which lies on the ocean floor below the Redline.

Navigation along the Grandline is done with the help of so-called log ports. These are compasses that react to magnetic fields running between the islands. There are seven different magnetic field routes, each with its course, but ultimately meeting at an island. However, the last island, Laugh Tale, cannot be reached with the log ports. The pirate Gol D. Roger was the only one who managed to do this by following the instructions of the red poneglyphs, of which only three still exist. Laugh Tale is also the destination of all pirates looking for Gold Roger’s legendary treasure, the One Piece.

Gold Roger was once the king of pirates and the most powerful of them all. Before his execution, he reveals that he has hidden an enormous treasure, the so-called One Piece’ somewhere on the Grand Line, the most dangerous waters in the world. After his death, Gold Roger thus ushered in the great era of piracy.

The story’s hero, Monkey D. Luffy, aims to become the king of pirates and find the so-called ‘One Piece.’ Luffy became a rubber man thanks to a so-called devil fruit. The narrative goes into his numerous adventures and the crew he has yet to find.

 Luffy’s Crew In One Piece

Roronoa Zoro

Roronoa Zoro, also called ‘Pirate Hunter,’ is a former bounty hunter and was the first to join Luffy. His goal is to become the best swordsman in the world. To achieve this goal, he trains very hard to be able to defeat the current best swordsman, the Warlord of the Seas, Mihawk ‘Hawkeye’ Dulacre. At the same time, he is the only known swordsman who fights with three swords simultaneously. Zoro resembles his captain in some ways and places great value on loyalty. His weakness is his poor sense of direction.

Nami

Nami, also called ‘Cat Burglar,’ is the navigator and cartographer of the crew. Nami is very spirited and loves nothing more than oranges and money. Her dream is to draw a perfect map of the world. After first using a simple wooden stick in battles, she later uses the climatic stick constructed by Usopp, whose individual parts create special bubbles that release either heat, cold or electricity.

Usopp

Usopp, also known as ‘Sogeking,’ is the crew’s sniper and weapons specialist, and before Franky joined the gang, the ship’s carpenter. Usopp is the son of Yasopp, a member of Shank’s pirate crew, and Banchina. He is often a coward, storyteller, and liar, yet sometimes can be counted on in dicey situations. His goal is to become a brave warrior of the seas and later the best sniper in the world.

Sanji

Sanji, also called ‘Blackfoot,’ is the ship cook on Luffy’s ship. He has a weakness for beautiful women and flirts with every pretty girl, often behaving very childishly. To save his hands needed for cooking, Sanji fights only with his legs. His big goal is to find the legendary Allblue – an ocean where all the fish in the world are said to be found. Sanji frequently fights with Zoro, always calling him Marimo (‘moss ball’). His full name is Sanji Vinsmoke, as it is later revealed. Sanji was born into the infamous Vinsmoke soldier family of the Germa-66 Kingdom. However, Sanji was disowned because he was not strong enough for his father, and Sanji, in turn, wants nothing to do with these ruthless people.

Tony Tony Chopper

The cotton candy lover Chopper is a male reindeer who ate from the human-human fruit and thus became a human reindeer. Chopper is the only known person who can strengthen his devil fruit by using so-called Rumble Balls. He is the ship’s doctor of the Straw Hats. He is very introverted, accordingly shy, and has difficulty dealing with compliments, but he can talk to animals. Moreover, he often seems like a little boy due to his naivety and enthusiasm for trivial trifles and events. Since Chopper has become a human reindeer thanks to the devil’s fruit, he can transform himself, which gives him an individual fighting style.

Nico Robin

Nico Robin is an archaeologist and the fourth oldest member of the crew. She ate from the Flower-Flower fruit, which gave her the ability to grow parts of her body in all possible places she can see. Her goal is to assemble the Rio Poneglyph, which will contain the truth about the ‘Void Century.’ Because of her archaeological studies and the destruction of Ohara, she is the only person in the world who can read and decipher this Poneglyph.

Cutty ‘Franky’ Flam

Franky, real name Cutty Flam, is a cyborg and the shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates after they rescued him and Robin from the justice island of Enies Lobby. He dreams of building a ship with which he can sail around the world. This ship will be the Straw Hat Pirate’s new ship, which the crew received as a thank-you gift. But for the dream ship to be able to do this, he accepted Luffy’s offer to join.

Brook

Brook, also often called ‘Soul King,’ is a living human skeleton and was a member of the Rumbar Pirates. The fact that he is a living skeleton is thanks to the Revive-Revive Fruit, which allowed his soul to return to his body after his physical death. However, his soul wandered too long, so his body decomposed in the meantime. Brook’s trademark is his afro, and it is the musician’s dream to complete the journey he began with the Rumbar Pirates and see and tell about his friend, the giant whale La Boum, after more than 50 years. Brook is an exceptionally talented fencer. He uses a shikomizue, a blade hidden in his walking stick, as a weapon.

Jinbe

Jinbe, also called ‘Knight of the Sea,’ is a fish-man, was a member of the Sun Pirates, and then became captain of the Fish-man Pirates. He was also one of the Seven Warlords of the Seas. He was imprisoned in Impel Down after refusing to fight Whitebeard and his alliance. While in Impel Down, he befriended his former enemy Ace, with whom he also shared the same cell. Jinbei and Ace knew each other before, having dueled in the past. He joined Luffy’s alliance and fought alongside Luffy in the Summit War of Marineford. In the process, he helped Luffy escape the battle alive and assisted him in his grief over the loss of Ace. After the Fishmen pirates left the Big Mom Crew two years later, Jinbei joined the Straw Hat Pirates. Due to his betrayal of the world government and the events at Impel Down, and his participation in the Summit War of Marineford, where he fought on the side of Luffy and Whitebeard, he was stripped of the title of Seven Warlords.
